A 33-year-old Georgetown man has been charged with murder in connection with Tuesday’s shooting death of Dave Sutton, 48, of New Chapmans.
Jamal Benjie, a labourer, is alleged to have murdered Sutton, a farmer, by shooting him in Langley Park, Georgetown.
Earlier today (Friday) Benjie appeared before Magistrate Bertie Pompey at the Mesopotamia Magistrate’s Court, sitting in Calliaqua.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
Benjie pleaded not guilty to a charge that on Tuesday, April 25, at Langley Park, he had in possession one black Taurus 9mm pistol, serial number ACD782325 without a licence issued under the Firearms Act.
The prosecutor, Corporal Delando Charles asked that the matters be transferred to the Serious Offences Court.
The magistrate ordered that Benjie be remanded in custody and adjourned and transferred the matters to the Serious Offences Court, for next Tuesday, May 2.
Detective Corporal 339 Laborde is leading the investigation.
Enough of these senseless killings
Anyone who is found guilty of Murder should be given 21 days to put their affairs in order and then hanged at the neck until dead.
