Police recovered over 10 spent shells and a number of live rounds of ammunition in Rillan Hill where there was a shootout Wednesday morning, a well-placed source told iWitness News.

The spent shells and ammunition appeared to be at least two different calibres, the source said.

The source noted that the number of spent shells and rounds of ammunition recovered from the scene indicate the gravity of what took place in the community, and pointed out that with so many houses around, it is a miracle that no injuries were reported.

At least three vehicles, including two parked over 500 feet apart, were also damaged.

The mid-morning quiet of the South Leeward village was shattered when gunshots rang out, sending residents scampering for cover and waking others who were sleeping-in.

The shooting occurred in the area known as “Village” sometime after 10 a.m. and residents and police are still trying to understand what happened.

iWitness News understands that police are looking into the possibility that at least two people might have been shooting at each other.

Detectives, including crime scene specialists, spent over two hours combing the scene for evidence.

There were no reports of injury and villagers expressed relief at this as the shooting occurred in an area where activities related to two businesses are sometimes conducted, resulting in a number of people being there from time to time.

One resident said they were awoken by the sound of gunfire and estimated that about 10 rounds might have been discharged.

Another resident said they took refuge inside their home after the gunfire rang out.

The shooting has left the community further on edge, coming just days after one of its members, Jamarlo “Ice’ Dunbar, was shot and killed in Arnos Vale, on Saturday.

Dunbar, 31, had been living in Pole Yard at the time of this death.

iWitness News is not aware of any link between Dunbar’s death and the gunfire Wednesday morning.
