Kashaka Holder, the driver of the omnibus that struck a 13-year-old cyclist on May 14, resulting in his death, has been charged with causing the teen’s death by reckless driving.
Dezy Lavia, of Sandy Bay, and a group of friends were cycling to Georgetown when the incident occurred around 6:50 p.m.
The youth suffered multiple injuries and was taken to the Georgetown Medical Centre before being transferred to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Holder appeared before Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne at the Serious Offences Court charged with causing the death of Dezy Lavia of Sandy Bay by driving the said vehicle dangerously on the Orange Hill public road.
Holder, 38, of Byera ,was not required to plead as the indictable charge.
He was granted bail in the sum of EC$30,000 with one surety and was ordered to report to the Georgetown Police station on Fridays between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Additionally, he is to surrender all travel documents and the court ordered that he seeks the permission of the court to leave the country, and that stop notices be placed at the nation’s ports.
The matter was adjourned to July 31 for a preliminary inquiry.
Lavia’s funeral is slated for June 3, at 1 p.m. at the Lady of Perpetual Light Catholic Church in Sandy Bay.

Let us all hope, if this man found guilty as charge, he MUST BE MADE AN EXAMPLE FOR ALL OTHER DRIVERS, TOO MUCH OF THIS NONSENSE IS ON OUR ROAD. AND HE MUST BE BANNED FOR LIFE
