Police investigating the murder of a Layou man in the Central Leeward town Sunday morning recovered about a dozen spent shells at the scene, a well placed source has told iWitness News.
Delano Patrick aka Smoke died in hospital, where he was taken after being shot in Middle Street, Layou around 1 a.m. Sunday, police said in a statement.
Source said that he was shot some 10 times.
The police statement said that preliminary information is that Patrick was on his way home when he was accosted by an assailant(s) and shot him multiple times about his body.
He was taken to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead about 2 p.m.
Police said that the Crime Scene Unit of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force processed the scene and retrieved items of evidential value.
Patrick’s death brings to 42 the number of homicides in St. Vincent and the Grenades this year, matching last year’s record-setting figure.
The police statement said a postmortem examination is expected to be carried out on Patrick’s body to ascertain the cause of death.
“The RSVGPF expresses its deepest condolences to those negatively affected by this fatal incident,” police said in the statement.
Police are also asking people with information that can assist the homicide investigation to call 999/911, 1-784- 458-7329 or any police station or police officer you are comfortable speaking with.
“All information received would be treated confidentially. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.”
