A Nigerian Catholic priest appeared in court in Kingstown on Monday charged with two counts of rape.
Kizito Igwebudul, whose local address is Mesopotamia, was arraigned on two counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault, iWitness News was reliably informed.
He appeared in camera before Kingstown Magistrate, John Ballah, sitting in his capacity as deputy president of the Family Court.
iWitness News was reliably informed that the cleric is alleged to have committed the unlawful sex acts on a teenaged female.
He was not allowed to plead to the indictable offences and was granted bail to appear before the Family Court, whose president would conduct a preliminary inquiry.
The court would then decide if there is enough evidence to send the matter to trial before a judge and a jury.
iWitness News is not aware of the terms and conditions of Igwebudul’s bail.
Igwebudul left the court in the company of the Bishop of the Diocese of Kingstown, Gerard County, who told iWitness News he has no comments on the allegation against the priest.
