An 18-year-old man appeared in court on Monday, charged with murder over the stabbing death of his uncle’s girlfriend on Valentine’s Day.
The death of Carona Jennings, 30, of Campden Park, has left her seven children without a mother.
Among the children are twin babies born in December, and at least two others who are in secondary school.
The accused, Kayode Richardson, of Campden Park, appeared before the Kingstown Magistrate’s court, where senior magistrate, Colin John read the murder charge to him.
Richardson was not required to plead at that stage to the charge that he murdered Jennings on Feb. 14, 2024, at Campden Park.
Bail was not open to the murder accused and he was remanded in custody until June 10, when the Serious Offences Court will hold a preliminary inquiry into the case.
Police say officers at the Questelles Police Station responded around 11:40 a.m. on Feb. 14 to a report of a stabbing incident in Campden Park.
Officers met a woman, later identified Jennings, unresponsive in her yard with what appeared to be stab wounds on her body.
A medical practitioner pronounced Jennings dead at the scene and a post mortem concluded that she died of blood loss due to multiple sharp force injuries.
iWitness News understands that police have theorised that Richardson stabbed Jennings during an altercation over an item he was allegedly trying to borrow from his uncle, who was not at home at the time.
Jennings’ death is the seventh homicide in St. Vincent and the Grenadines this year.
The country chalked up a record 55 homicides in 2023 – 52 of which officials have classified as murder.
The last part of the report isn’t really needed but keep quoting the figures like it’s something us vincentians should be proud of, one can only hope that family can come together and help raise those children.
Wow. I’m even more angry than before reading this. So this woman lost her life just so over some nonsense.
Yeah they gotta throw the book at him now.
Shush, the facts are the facts.
Carl Mayor is US Vincentians correct? Was Gomery your first grade teacher?
