There is no evidence of a serial killer operating in St. Vincent and the Grenadines despite the similarity in the killing of two 17-year-old girls in just under two years, police said on Wednesday.

“There’s no evidence that suggests that we have a serial killer on the loose,” acting Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for crime-fighting, Trevor “Buju” Bailey told a press conference in Kingstown.

“It happened, yes, that two young ladies in the early stage of life were killed. But we cannot say that because we can’t link to say that evidence from one scene supports, or corroborates the evidence of another scene and say well there is a clear linkage to say well then there is a serial killer on the loose. We have not been able to make such a distinction,” Bailey said.

The senior detective was asked the question in relation to the deaths of Precious Williams, of Sion Hill and Kemeisha Haynes, of Murray’s Village.

Williams’ body was found was found in a bag in Richmond Hill on May 12, 2022, while Haynes’ body was found below an embankment along the Fair Hall Public Road on March 24, 2024.

Williams was stabbed to death and Haynes was strangled, post mortem examination concluded.

People have noted the similarity in the ages of the two teenagers as well as their physique, while others have said that they led “a similar lifestyle”.

Bailey said that police were still actively investigating both cases.

“Since the last time you asked that question in this room, police have interviewed a suspect, other persons in that matter,” he said referring to an update he gave in January when he pledged to solve the murder case.

“So, I can say to you that the investigation is still very much alive and ongoing,” Bailey said.

“I know that sometimes we want to receive or hear of immediate arrest. But I said to the family of Precious Williams that the police have committed all of its resources in finding Precious’ killer or killers. And we are actively pursuing everyday this matter.”

He said that in the Haynes case, police had not uncovered any information that would bring them closer to laying a charge.
