A former Vincentian police officer has joined the prestigious King’s Guard in the United Kingdom, following major awards during his graduation ceremony.
Delwyn Dellpesche, who hails from Evesham, completed his training as a King’s Guard on Tuesday, receiving accolades for Best Drill & Turn Out and the Major General’s Section Award.
Delpesche, who began his policing career in October 2010, has served in various capacities within the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force, including the Special Services Unit and community policing in Chateaubelair.
The former Police Constable 343 is no stranger to awards, having received the Best Turn Out Award on passing out from the Police Training School.
He told iWitness News that his 13-year policing career saw him being stationed at the Chateaubelair, Rosehall and Spring Village police stations.
Delpesche later joined the Special Patrol Unit (SPU) in Ottley Hall where he spent the remaining years of his policing career.
He further honed his skills and expertise in September 2019, when he commenced basic course training hosted by the Regional Security System (RSS) in Barbados, graduating in December 2019 with the Best Rifle Shot award.
His training extended to St. Kitts and Nevis and Belize, further honing his skills and expertise.
“My policing journey took a significant turn in September 2023,” he added.
Delpesche made the difficult decision to resign from policing and relocate to the United Kingdom, which has now been rewarded with this prestigious role.
“I’ll tell anyone struggling with a rough decision to follow their dreams and strive for excellence,” he said.
He disclosed that his goal is to be successful in his career and to serve as an inspiration to his three children.
Delpesche attributes his success to the strong support from his colleagues in the Special Patrol Unit in Ottley Hall, who he said were more like family to him.
The King’s Guard (the name changes depending on the gender of the reigning monarch) are sentry postings at Buckingham Palace and St James’ Palace, organised by the British Army’s Household Division.
With all the awards he got here, after 13 years he was still a constable? That’s why we loosing all these officers kissues goes by favour.
Looks like a smart guy and should do well in the Guards’ Regiment .
