The people of Union Island are appealing for external help to facilitate the repair of roofs and the rebuilding of homes.

As we are at the height of the rainy season, we would be grateful for water storage tanks (black tanks) since most people lost their tanks.

We cannot rely on the services of our two main water trucks that supply our homes throughout the dry season because the homes where they source water no longer have a supply available.

A lot of homeowners with concrete tanks are yet to pump out the contaminated waters from these water tanks and that is something for the Ministry of Health to take into consideration before the rainy season ends.

I commend the CWSA on their water distribution through the trying times. However, during the peak of the dry season when the mainland also has its constraints with water availability, that, too, would affect us, the smaller islands.

Should housing be an issue as far as sourcing external help is concerned, the field hospital is an option and if the military can assist, we know these sleeping conditions are a walk in the park for them.

I trust and pray that this piece doesn’t fall on deaf ears and one can see the needs of the smaller islands.
