Netball St. Vincent and the Grenadines has announced the awarding of a two-year scholarship to a talented netballer to further her education at the SVG Community College while pursuing her passion for netball.

The scholarship is part of the association’s ongoing partnership with Bank if St. Vincent and the Grenadines (BOSVG).

As part of the three-year partnership agreement, three scholarships were awarded, two in 2023 and one in 2024.

President of the SVG Netball Association, Natasha Baptiste said the scholarship programme continues to be the flagship of the partnership with the bank “as we focus not only on the athletic ability of our athletes but also their educational advancement and we are pleased that BOSVG has made this possible”.

This year’s recipient is Ceronique Mitchell, who graduated from St. Vincent Girls’ High School, who received EC$4,000.

Mitchell was the captain of the school’s senior netball team that placed 3rd in the 2023 School’s Netball Tournament.

“Her performance at CSEC was exemplary, gaining passes in all subject areas,” the association said in a press statement.

“We have no doubt that Ms. Mitchell will be a true ambassador for both the Bank of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the SVG Netball Association.”

Meanwhile, Marketing and Communications Manager at BOSVG, Patricia John said the bank was thrilled to award this scholarship to Mitchell, who has proven to be an inspiring female netballer.

“Supporting her journey empowers young women to chase their dreams and break barriers in sports. We believe investing in Ceronique is not just an investment in the future of women in athletics but also an investment in the future of our country,” John said.

Meanwhile, Mitchell said she was “very honoured to have been selected as the 2024 recipient of this scholarship and will ensure that I make great use of this opportunity”.

She said netball has helped her time management and to improve her leadership skills, having captained my school’s netball team.

Mitchell further committed to making netball a long-lasting part of her growth and development.

  1. Here I thought the scholarship will further the development of netball by sending the recipient to an international netball camp.
