A Petit Bordel man living in Redemption Sharpes has been charged with murder over one of the two killings in the North Leeward community recently.

Iran Stapleton appeared before the Serious Offences Court, on Wednesday, charged that on Sept. 29, at Petit Bordel, he murdered Othnell Lavia, of Petit Bordel.

Senior Magistrate Colin John read the murder charge to Stapleton and then asked him if he had a lawyer.

Stapleton told the court that lawyer Grant Connell represents him.

The prosecutor, Corporal of Police Devon Bute told the court that Connell had indicated that he would not be available until Tuesday.

The magistrate told Stapleton that he was not permitted to plead to the indictable charge at that stage.

He further told the accused that he would not be admitted to bail.

The magistrate then adjourned the case to Tuesday.

Lavia aka Curtell, a 37-year-old farmer, died after being shot in Petit Bordel sometime around 2 a.m. on Sept. 29, police have said.

Detective Sergeant Biorn Duncan is the lead investigator.
