The Christian Council says it is “a matter of deep concern” that crime and violence has been on the rise in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).
The statement on Friday came one day after SVG recorded two killings in North Leeward, taking the homicide count this year to 41, following previous records of 55 in 2023 and 42 in 2022.
“As a Christian Council, we share in the grief and sorrow of those affected by this troubling trend,” the religious organisation said.
“While we continue to lift our prayers and offer heartfelt homilies, we recognise the urgent need for action that goes beyond spiritual reflection.”
The council said that the Bible says that God “created humanity in His image, bestowing upon us a dignity that is sacred and inviolable.
“This dignity is nurtured within the family, the church, and the wider community. Crime and violence seriously erodes this dignity, which then undermines the very foundation of our society.
“Our Christian society must therefore respond to the ultimate commandment of God to “Love one another as I have Loved you” (John 13:34) and work together to stop the spread of crime and violence in our beloved nation. As the Apostle Paul wrote, “Love does no harm to a neighbour.” (Romans 13:10).”
The council said it will “engage various stakeholders and work with them to address this crisis.
“Guided by the teachings of Jesus, we seek to promote peace, justice, and reconciliation within our communities. Let us therefore work together to build a society that reflects the love and compassion of a faithful God.”
Christianity has not been able to stop crimes or wrong doings anywhere in the world. Christians are more concerned about going to a heaven, that has never existed anywhere. Christians have never concerned themselves with what is taking place here on earth. However, I want to a question, of Christians. How many times, Jesus Christ was crucified in the bible? Read, Revelation 11: 8-9 and you would see, Jesus Christ was crucified simultaneously in two different places at the same time, Egypt and Sodom. Plus in the four gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke, John Jesus Christ was crucified simultaneously in two different places at the same time, Calvary Mountain and Golgotha Hill. Moreover, when the COVID-19 virus spread throughout the world, it has cancelled the so-called blood of Jesus. Christians didn’t use the so-called blood of Jesus for protection, they actually used COVID-19 vaccines. Christians have never done anything, anywhere in the world to stop crimes and they won’t begin now.
The churches have to pray harder, just like after praying for 400 yrs slavery ended. Based on the length of time it took for slavery to end by prayers ,I’ll say we have quite a number of yrs to prayer before the crime situation is finally, under control.
