PC 1090 Williams conducted an investigation and interviewed Guy on Nov. 8 in the presence of PC 871 Lewis.

Guy gave a written statement detailing what she had done one each of the days.

In mitigation, Guy told the court that she attended Carapan and Mountain View Adventist Academy, leaving school at Form 4 after she became pregnant.

Responding to questions from Senior Magistrate Colin John, Guy said the father of her child hardly takes care of him.

She said it makes no sense suing him before the Family Court for child support because the man would still not take care of their son.

Guy said her son’s father works in construction.

One of the woman’s eyes appeared to be swollen and when the magistrate inquired, she said that it began swelling on Friday.

John asked Guy if she knew that she could be jailed for crime and she said, “Yes.”

“Are you prepared for that?” the senior magistrate asked.

“No,” Guy told the court, adding that she does not have anyone to take care of her child.

“Did you think about that?” John said.

He sentenced Guy to three months in prison suspended for three months.

John further ordered her to pay compensation in the sums of

EC$47, EC$53.75, EC$50, EC$41.25, EC$42 in one month go to prison for three months.

The sentences are to run concurrently.
