The person who shot a man at Young Island dock in Villa around 9 a.m. Friday morning left a note saying, “when u owe PAY!” a witness has told iWitness News.
There were some reports that the sign might have been from a vendor in the area, but sources have told iWitness News that was not the case.
The victim, Cornelius Hacksaw aka Brent, who is originally from Questelles but was living in Arnos Vale, was gunned down on the dock, located in the country tourism belt.
iWitness News was reliably informed that Hackshaw was sitting on some blocks when a white car drove into the area.
A male suspect is said to have exited the car on the same side that Hackshaw was sitting and discharged over a dozen rounds at him before re-entering the vehicle, which then drove away.
iWitness News understands that the assailant discharged over a dozen rounds are Hackshaw, several of which struck him in the head.
Videos and photos of the crime scene circulated via social media showed a piece of cardboard with the words “when u owe PAY!” written in red near Hackshaw’s body.
One explanation was that the sign had been used by a vendor in the area sometime before the killing as a message to his customers and it got dislodged during the commotion and ended up near Hackshaw’s body.
However, people familiar with vending in the area told iWitness News that none of the vendors used such a sign and that it was left by the killer(s).
Hackshaw’s death is the 42nd homicide in St. Vincent and the Grenadines this year.
It came one day before Jelani John aka Bolo, 39, of Fairbaine Pasture would be shot at his home, dying in a neighbour’s yard in a midnight attack, four days after he survived an attempt on his life that had left him in hospital.
