A man who residents of Fairbaine Pasture described as a menace to the village was shot and killed there by unknown assailant(s) Saturday morning, four days after surviving a gun attack that had left him hospitalised.
The man, Jelani John aka Bolo, 37, collapsed and died in a neighbour’s yard after being shot at the house where he lived Saturday morning.
Villagers recall hearing about four shots around 2 a.m. Saturday followed by another burst of about four shots.
Then John’s body was found in a neighbour’s yard around 6 a.m., marking the second killing in St. Vincent and the Grenadines in less than 24 hours and the 43rd in the country this year.
John was killed on the day that he was discharged from hospital, where he had been treated for gunshot injuries he sustained to his shoulder and arms on Monday.
Villagers described him as a menace, saying that he was a peeping tom who would also watch people menacingly while holding a cutlass in his hand.
One person said that the worst thing someone could have done was to laugh while John was passing, even if they were not laughing at him.
They said that he got the alias “Bolo” because his build was similar to that of Cantonese bodybuilder, martial artist and movie star, Bolo Yeung, famed for his strength and stocky build.
Officers from the Calliaqua Criminal Investigation Department and the Major Crimes Unit responded to the killing, with detectives Sergeant 191 David, Corporal Edmund Ollivierre, and Constable Roland Dascent among the investigators.
The killing is the second in the Calliaqua district in less than a day and followed that of Cornelius Hackshaw, who was gunned down at the Young Island dock around 9 a.m. Friday.
I strongly believe that this man had some mental issues,_ had anyone took him to a doctor who may then refer him to a psychiatrist for an assessment?? I don’t think he was of a sound mind..
