One of the four men granted bail in connection with a pistol police allegedly found in a car has been charged with possession of an AR-15 rifle and 190 rounds of ammunition.
Police are alleging that Vashon Thomas, a 20-year-old electrician, of Glen, had an AR-15 rifle, a prohibited weapon, at his home on Dec. 18 without authorisation of the minister.
Thomas also allegedly had 100 rounds of 9mm ammunition and 71 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, prohibited ammunition, without the authorisation of the minister.
Thomas pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Colin John at the Serious Offences Court on Friday.
He was granted EC$20,000 bail with two sureties and ordered to report to the Calliaqua Police Station on Mondays and Wednesdays.
The court also ordered that Thomas surrender his travel document, that stop notices be posted at ports of entry and exit, and that he observe a 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew at his father’s home in Glen.
The matter was adjourned to Jan. 7, 2025, the same day that Thomas, along with his co-accused, Altha James, a 19-year-old porter; Javid Grant, a 20-year-old bag boy; Kamal Ballantyne, a 23-year-old mechanic, all of Glen, are due back in court on a charge that on Dec. 17, at Glen, they had one Glock 9mm pistol in their possession without a license issued under the Firearms Act.
Meanwhile, also on Friday, Grandeisha Cain, 21, of Glen, was charged with possession of an AR-15 rifle, believed to be the same one that police allegedly recovered at Thomas’ house.
Cain is said to be Thomas’ girlfriend allegedly had the weapon in her possession on Dec. 3, at Glen,
iWitness News understands that police brought the charge against her after allegedly finding a photograph of her posing with the prohibited firearm while dressed in her underwear.
She pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail to return to court on Jan. 7, 2025.
