Petit Bordel resident Kevin Matthews is in a critical condition in hospital after being shot in the neck in Stubbs on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025.

The Petit Bordel man who survived a gun attack that claimed the lives of two Lowmans Hill men in North Leeward on Nov. 7, 2024, is now battling for his life after being shot again on Thursday.

Kevin Matthews, a 29-year-old labourer, is in the Intensive Care Unit of the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital in critical condition after being shot in the neck in Bonhomme, Stubbs.

iWitness News was reliably informed that a bullet damaged Matthews’ spine in the area of the neck, leaving him unresponsive from the neck down.

The shooting incident was the third in the country in a week, with the two others resulting in fatalities.

The Police Public Relations and Complaints Department said on Friday that police received an anonymous tip on Thursday regarding a shooting in Bonhomme, Stubbs.

Upon arrival, officers met Matthews with a gunshot wound to the right side of his neck.

“He was transported to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, where he remains in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit,” the statement said, adding that officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident.

Police are asking anyone with relevant information to come forward, adding that people with details that may assist in the investigation should telephone (784) 458-4210, 457-1211 or  (784) 485-6891.

“The RSVGPF remains focused on ensuring public safety and will continue to pursue all available leads in this case,” the statement said.

Mathews survived a gun attack by unknown assailants on him and two other men in the Petit Bordel-Rose Hall mountains last November.

Lowmans Hill residents Johnny Holder, 23, and Kelon Baptiste, 38, were shot and killed in that incident.

Police had said that preliminary reports were that three men had sustained multiple gunshot injuries after they had been approached by two masked gunmen, who had opened fire before fleeing the scene.

“Upon responding to the incident, police discovered that two of the three men had been fatally shot,” a police statement issued shortly after the shooting had said.

The incident on Thursday followed two fatal shootings that have brought the homicide count this year to five.

During the early hours of Sunday, officers responded to a report of a shooting in Mt. Bentick, Georgetown and met the body of 29-year-old Mokra Charles, a labourer and a resident of the east coast town.

Police said that initial reports are that an unidentified masked assailant opened fire on Charles before fleeing the scene.

Three days earlier, on Feb. 6, Carl Quow, a 23-year-old resident of Edinboro, was gunned down in the West Kingstown community around 3 p.m.

The shooting took place near the Catholic Pastoral Centre and Quow died in the gardens of the property after trying to flee his assailants, who pursued him onto the property and shot him several times as he ran.

During the incident, a minor who is a student of the JP Eustace Memorial Secondary School was shot and injured.

The minor was treated at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital and discharged.
