If the headline to this article immediately caused you a feeling of glee or animosity, I will be the first to tell you that you are part of the problem which has gripped St. Vincent and the Grenadines by its gonads and have refused to let go.

It is time for the NDP to be taken to task for the current state of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. I do not say that in the sense of going back to pre-2001 where there was an NDP-led government but rather to the lack of accountability of the NDP,  which has led to a five-time back-to-back ULP government.

Election go, election come, the NDP has often found a plethora of excuses as to why they loss the elections and have over the past two electoral cycles, taken solace in holding the majority of the votes. The votes sadly do not matter in our system of governance. Seats are what matter and the failings of the NDP time and time again to be able to capture the majority of the seats to form government should warrant introspection by them.

The NDP and many of their lackeys are unwilling to have the hard conversations and make the hard decisions to move the party and the country forward out of the grasp of the ULP. Unless and until the leadership of the NDP becomes willing to pull their heads from the sand, St. Vincent and the Grenadines has a sixth term ULP government in its future.

Ways in which the NDP has failed:

  1. Allowing its machinery to be used to push conspiracy theories

2. Supporting/not disassociating from extremists

3. Failing to target/change rhetoric to influence moderate voters

4. Failing to capitalise on the shortcomings of the ULP in a structured, coherent manner

5. Failing to stay on topic as it relates to (ALL) issues affecting the population

6. Failing to as an organisation to understand the public and tailor PR to address the needs of the public

7. Failing to act as a tool through which the public can be reminded of the shortcomings of the ULP since 2001.

The list can continue but these are some of the more glaring aspects of the NDP’s failings. St. Vincent and the Grenadines is ripe for a change of government but if the NDP continues to refuse to not take constructive criticism and change course, nothing will change.

There needs to be a concerted effort, a unified drive, a one-ness in voice, in approach, in mandate.

To Dr. Friday, it is time to take your leadership in hand.

I would say you are correct by them not being more vocal. However how do you overcome the begging mentality that they “ULP” have created for the last 25 years by having so many people on a poor relief list. This was never the case before the Ulp came to office.

As long as people feel like they are going to lose their poor relief as little as it is they will vote they same way, hence the reason this government put them and keep the in that position. Keep them black souls poor and you control them.

  4. I read the headline “ULP, a symptom of NDP failings” and immediately agreed with it. The ULP has not been wiing the last 4 elections, the NDP, with Mr. Eustace and Dr. Friday, have been losing the elections.
    Major Leacock is too argumentative
    Daniel Cummings is bombastic
    Nigel Stephenson sound too whiny
Terrance Ollivierre is childish and has nothing to offer. The only reason why he win is because The Grenadines people has sense not to vote ULP.

The only viable candidates in that party are
    Fitzgerald Bramble, NDP leader
    Shevern John – 1st Vice
    Kishore Shallow – 2nd Vice
    Laverne Gibson
    Chieftain Neptune
    Conroy Huggins
    Kishore Shallow
    Kaschaka Cupid
    Philip Jackson

Andrew John is a place holder.

The NDP needs people who understand social media and a good understanding of the 25-50 aged people.

The NDP needs to be build from the ground up as the foundation it stood on is now weak. If transformation is not attained, the ULP will have a 6th term in office.
