Police will not tolerate sexual harassment, expletives from DJs at shows and violation of the no-glass-bottle policy during Vincymas.

On Monday, Assistant Commissioner of Police Christopher Benjamin said that police have noticed that DJs are using expletives and playing music with expletives.

“I ask you to desist from doing that. Once you trespass in that era, we’re going to pull the plug on the event,” Benjamin said.

“Let us promote clean culture so that everybody can enjoy themselves, and do not promote nothing that will [descend into] violence.”

Benjamin also urged vendors to stock up on disposable cups, saying that the police will rigidly enforce the no-glass-bottle policy.

“… if you want to do your business, make sure you abide by these rules and regulations. Otherwise, we will take the necessary action,” the senior police officer said.

“I’m not threatening anyone, but we want to make sure we have a safe Carnival because we always promote it: we are the hottest Carnival in the region, and definitely it’s the hottest and it’s the best, and let us keep it that way, and not just for ourselves for generations to come.”

Responding to a question at the press conference, acting ACP with responsibility for crime-fighting, Trevor “Buju” Bailey said police will not tolerate sexual offences during the festival.

He noted that people dress differently during carnival.

“… because a female may be dressed in a short piece of pants, that doesn’t give you the right to go and cab her on her buttocks. We will not tolerate that kind of behaviour for the season — at no time,” Bailey said.

He also noted that intoxication is not an excuse to violate the law.

“So do not believe for one moment that you will come to Kingstown and, under the guise that you are intoxicated, that you will be allowed to do these kinds of acts and get away scot-free. That is a no-no. If you do that, you’ll pay,” he said.

Bailey urged people to consume alcohol at a level that they would still be in control of their faculties.

“… regardless of how scantily somebody else may dress, that is not an invitation for you to come and violate their privacy,” he said.

Meanwhile, acting Commissioner of Police Enville Williams said there was no increased threat level as Vincy Mas approaches.

“But we will not let our guards down, where we still be looking for and trying to create a safe environment with all that we’ve known, so that everybody can party in a safe atmosphere,” he said.

He said there will be a visible presence of the police to deter criminals, including pickpockets.

I love this write up by the SVG Police Force. I agree with all that was stated in this outline. Continue the good work.
