The homicide count in St. Vincent and the Grenadines this year now stands at 36 after three killings in less than a week.

Detectives are looking for an unidentified adolescent male who allegedly stabbed a teen to death in Kingstown on Tuesday.

Gary Bute, 18, of Riley and Campden Park, died at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital after being stabbed on Melville and Middle Streets around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Two days earlier, on Sunday, police and residents of Lowmans Leeward uncovered the body of 32-year-old Lee-Chang Anthony in a shallow grave in Liar Cane, a farming area in Burgin.

Anthony, a farmer who is originally from Long Wall, Kingstown, was last seen alive when he left for his farm hut on Friday night.

Residents of the West Kingstown village became concerned after not seeing or being able to reach him throughout Saturday.

When the villagers checked on Anthony, they saw evidence of violence in the crude dwelling.

The police were summoned and responded Saturday night, but decided to return the following morning because of how dark the area was.

When the police returned on Sunday morning, they, along with the villagers, followed what appeared to be a trail where an object had been dragged to a hole.

The hole had been left open after being dug for a toilet sometime earlier. However, the police and villagers found it filled in with dirt, further raising suspicion.

The villagers dug up the hole and found Anthony’s body inside.

Police had taken into custody three men who also farmed and lived in the area, but have since released them without charge.

The third homicide was the shooting death of Shem Walker, 25, of Stubbs, which occurred in Akers on Nov. 5.

Walker was shot and killed while travelling in a rented car.

His death came five weeks after threatening comments were left on his Instagram account.

Police investigations into the three killings continue. Investigators are asking anyone with information to telephone +1784-457-1211 or 999.

  1. I guess police don’t have flash lights to walk with, poor excuse for police officers, they just want to sit on their asses and make up some poor excuse for not wanting to do their duties. Too dark, I don’t have a vehicle, lovers fight. All bullshit behavior, time to hire people who wants to take their job seriously.

  2. I hope the police can retrieve information from the cell phones or PC where the messages were generated. The SVG police need some AI training to help solve incidents on the island.

  3. St. Vincent I love you says:

“Liar Cane”. I remember going to those hills with my cousins as a child. I always thought the name was Lawyer (phonetic) Cane.

Saw another name in Lowmans Hill where the gentleman died in the fire, “Mahaut”. Kept wondering where that was. Then it dawned on me, “Maho” (how we pronounced it).

    Been gone far too long.
