On Sept. 25, 2025, educator Dennis Williams told us how losing his job under the COVID-19 mandate of November 2021 had disrupted his life, forcing him to live in a shack in the mountains of Layou, St. Vincent, with his son.
Four months later, he and his son are living in rented accommodation, his vehicle is back on the road, and he is awaiting a call from the Public Service Commission about which government office he should report to for work.
Williams thanked iWitness News for telling his story and the “thousands” of people who responded to assist.

Kenton, this stands among your finest videos on life in SVG. The gentleman exemplifies the patience and humility of the Vincentian people. The ULP and Mr Ralph Gonsalves are wicked to their core; they deserve everything they got. I hope this teaches political parties a lesson about how to treat people. Bravo, Kenton, keep up the good work.
From classroom educator to shack squatter to tenant
Indeed, some troubling experiences
Firstly, he was seemingly messed-up by a mandate.
Secondly, situationally forced into becoming a shack squatter: and thirdly, good citizens who became aware of the change in circumstances.
Most importantly, has been residents’ concerns over his parental plight.
Now, responding positively, they saw both father and son being better positioned as a tenant in the Layou community to live in peace and harmony and a life in dignity.
