The SVG Cuba Friendship Society is making a public appeal for donations to a Cuba Humanitarian Relief effort.
This ASSIST CUBA appeal comes as the United States has tightened its blockade on Cuba, including threatening sanctions on countries that send petroleum to that Caribbean nation.
This has been causing massive electricity blackouts, which hamper every aspect of normal life in Cuba, including lifesaving surgeries and other healthcare at hospitals and has drastically crippled mass transportation services.
The SVG CUBA Friendship Society has therefore reactivated its bank account number 130016 at the Bank of St Vincent and the Grenadines.
This account has been used in the past to assist the Cuban people during moments of crisis, such as hurricanes or during the COVID pandemic.
Funds collected during those occasions have been used to purchase materials, which were sent to Cuba.
“This new call by the local Friendship Society is an humanitarian plea to all Vincentians across political party lines and to all who have benefited directly or indirectly from Cuba’s generosity over the years,” said Dexter Rose, a former St. Vincent and the Grenadines Ambassador to Cuba.
“The SVG Cuba Friendship Society stresses that this is an occasion for taking a principled and unified stance to come to the rescue of our brothers and sisters in Cuba,” Rose said.
The SVG Cuba Friendship Society noted to Vincentians that Cuba welcomed, educated and sheltered Vincentian men and women who have become professionals, serving SVG today.
There are presently a number of Vincentian students still at universities in Cuba.
“Now that Cuba is feeling the squeeze, victims of an economic deprivation and strangulation imposed by the United States, it is our time to step forward for the people of this nation,” Rose said.
“Other organisations are being encouraged to utilise this portal to collect funds to be sent onward to Cuba, which has stood by SVG for so many years and in so many ways.”

It is my honour to humbly pledge $100.00 to this fund.
