A police officer discharged his weapon twice Thursday afternoon to deescalate a situation between a colleague and a bus conductor in near the Calliaqua Playing Field.
Reports are that the skirmish attracted a great deal of public attention, causing the busy afternoon motor vehicle traffic to halt.
When iWitness News visited the area Thursday afternoon, people in the area confirmed that a police officer had discharged his firearm.
Sources said a passenger bus, overloaded with students believed to be returning from the Inter-Secondary School Athletics Meet at the Sir Vincent Beache stadium at Diamond, was travelling towards Kingstown when a police officer ordered the driver to stop.
An argument developed between the police officer and the bus conductor, and a physical confrontation ensued during which the traffic cop hurled his helmet at the conductor.
It is understood that the skirmish was soon quelled and the conductor and bus were escorted to the nearby police station.
A video clip viewed by iWitness News showed a traffic cop in a tussle with someone outside the bus that had stopped on the left lane with the door open and passengers disembarking.
Because of the obstruction on the left lane, the traffic flowing in the direction of Kingstown was backing up.
A corporal of police dressed in uniform came running towards the scene.
He ran along the other lane and discharged his firearm twice and continued running to the back of the bus.
There was no report of anyone having been injured during the incident.

I trust that this conductor loses his license and pay a fine, we need to respect our law officers, this lawlessness in SVG needs to stop.
Police acting the fool.
