A South Leeward woman and her mother are slated to appear in court on Monday to face corruption and other charges over their alleged use of money allocated to a government social assistance programme.

iWitness News understands that the daughter, a government employee for several years, has been slapped with over dozens of charges, while her mother has so far faced several charges in relation to an alleged scheme operated at a government ministry.

They have also been brought up on official corruption with other charges to follow, sources familiar with the situation told iWitness News on condition of anonymity.

The source said the charges are the first brought under ongoing, extensive investigations into the operations of government ministries and other state-operated entities.

The charges are said to cover January to July 2026, with the investigation also looking into government operations further back.

The funds were allocated to assist people who could not work because of disabilities and unemployed people in need of government assistance.

The duo is expected to appear before a magistrate on Monday.
