St. Vincent and the Grenadines are one game away from cementing their spot at the October 2027 World Netball Finals in Sydney, Australia, having dismantled Grenada 77–52 on Sunday during the fifth day of action at the Sir Garfield Sobers Gymnasium.
The Vincy Jewels remained in full control, leading in all four quarters, 18–10, 41–21, 63–33, and 77–52.
The victory is their fifth in six games, with the loss against Trinidad and Tobago as the only blot on their campaign.
They now have 15 points, securing the second spot behind Trinidad and Tobago, who are on 18 points, and ahead of Barbados and the USA, who are third and fourth on 12 points each.
SVG goal-shoot Mary-Ann Frederick netted 71 out of 72 attempts taken, goal-attack Shellisa Davis scored 2 from 4, and substitute goal-shoot Joseann Antoine scored 4 goals from 7 attempts.
For Grenada, Lottysha Cato scored 50 from 58 attempts, and goal-attack Tiffany Frederick 2 from 3 attempts.
“We’ve been confident coming in. Not in a cocky way, but confident because of the work that we … have put into preparing to come into this tournament,” Vincy Jewels Head Coach Natasha Baptiste-Samuel, said.
“We are very confident that we are definitely going to make it over the line,” she said, adding that even with one game remaining, it would not be easy.
“We are prepared for the challenge. We know that our sister island, St Lucia … they have been playing good netball in the tournament as well, and we expect nothing less when they meet us tomorrow. But we are coming out and sticking to the game plan and deliver what we are supposed to deliver.”
In other matches on Sunday, the USA defeated St. Lucia 50–34, Trinidad and Tobago kept their perfect record intact with a 107-16 whipping of the British Virgin Islands, and Barbados got past Canada, 51–40.
St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines face each other at 6 p.m. Monday.
