The Barbados and the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Meteorological Services are monitoring the progress of a series of low-pressure systems over the Atlantic.
Of immediate interest is the system closest to the region, which was, centered about 800 miles east of the Lesser Antilles at 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
At present, forecast models are suggesting some slow development over the next few days as it tracks westward at 17 to 23 mph.
An Air Force Reserve reconnaissance aircraft is scheduled to investigate this system on Thursday, if necessary.
Regardless of development, pockets of moderate to heavy showers, periods of rain, scattered thunderstorms, and occasional gusty winds are likely to spread across St. Vincent and the Grenadines by Thursday afternoon into Friday.
Rainfall accumulations of 2- 3 inches (50 –75mm) are possible with higher amounts over mountainous terrain. Due to the expected rainfall accumulations and the saturated nature of the soils, a flood-watch/warning will be issued on Thursday.
Marine conditions are also expected to deteriorate with sea swells increasing to 2.0– 2.5 meters (7–8 feet).
With respect to the other two systems over the Atlantic Ocean, these are expected to track to the west-northwest over the open waters and away from St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) urges the public to be vigilant and increase preparedness as we are entering the traditional peak of the hurricane season, which is already active and is forecasted to be even more active than originally predicted.
NEMO is also appealing to all persons to pay attention to the information from the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Meteorological Services and to ensure that they are prepared at all times.
