Police officers in the Spring Village district are investigating a suspected drowning on Wednesday at Cumberland Bay.

The dead man has been identified as Devon Morgan aka “Sleepy”, a 33-year-old fisherman, of Barrouallie.

“According to preliminary investigations, about 12:25 p.m., police at the Spring Village Police Station received a telephone report that stated that someone had drowned at Cumberland Bay.

“The police promptly responded. Upon arrival at the scene, they met a male lying on the shore of Cumberland Bay in an unresponsive state and surrounded by bystanders. The deceased was later identified by a fisherwoman of Barrouallie,” police said in a statement.

“Reports further suggest that Morgan was among a group of persons who were fishing in the waters off Cumberland Bay. He reportedly encountered difficulties and fell overboard from the vessel he was in. Other fishers rendered assistance, pulled Morgan out of the water, and performed CPR on him without success. Morgan was pronounced deceased at the scene by a medical practitioner.”
