The shooting death of a man in Diamond Friday night has taken the homicide count in St. Vincent and the Grenadines to 24 this year as the country has recorded six killings in 12 days.

The latest victim has been identified as Kimani Richards aka Manny, 46, of Diamond.

His death came two days after Osborne Glasgow aka Soca, 63, was shot and killed inside the first-floor apartment where he lived with his widow and children at Harmony Hall.

Police have said that Glasgow was shot and killed by burglars during a home invasion.

After Glasgow’s death, Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves, who is also minister of national security, said he had summoned a meeting of the top brass of the police force for last Wednesday.

Since then, neither the prime minister nor the police have said anything about the outcome of their deliberations.

The frequency of homicides in SVG this year puts the country on track to match the record 55 recorded last year, following 42 in 2022, another record.

Police have classified 52 of the killings last year as murder.

Meanwhile, iWitness News understands that police are awaiting the outcome of an autopsy as their investigation continues into the death of a woman whose naked body was found in her home in Layou on Friday morning.

Reports are that the woman had an injury to the head, which suggested that she might have fallen while exiting her shower.

The woman’s body is said to have been naked.

Police have not issued any statement on the discovery of that body.

  2. I’ve spoken with die hard supporters of this administration and they say that this pm has definitely dropped the ball where crime and the out of control murder rate is concerned. They think it’s time for him to demit office or call elections. He’s always slighted the crime and murders committed in this country; most recently his main focus has been the opposition leader’s Canadian citizenship; this in the midst of multiple murders being committed in a short span of time.
Finally , some of his strongest supporters are beginning to see this leader for what he truly is. We need more billboards..highlighting the crime and plight of Vincentians under this man’s leadership.

Deadly pattern of criminal behavior – police no answer

By now, the local law enforcers shall have observed a …deadly pattern of criminal behavior.

    Seemingly, police have no answer.

From professional perspective, law enforcement may wish to establish:

    (i) community-support crime intelligence units
(ii) no more than two well-trained personnel- possessing a good sense of responsibility, judgment, trustworthy, well as being most reliable.
(iii) build relations with communities, leaders and members.
(iv) ascertain victims’ families, associates, friends/foe, activities, likes and dislikes
    (v) seek to establish or ascertain whether or not – avenging; …retaliatory or random attacks
    (v) units shall be sufficiently resourced for incentivized information.
(vi) critically assess and analyse sought intelligence.
(vii) shall not be mischievous, nor vexatious.
(viii) cover blown/over-familiarity/overly officious/unsavory/questionable behaviour-immediate removal and replacement.

    Note:
Though some targeted murders cannot be prevented, still some measures shall be taken and implemented.

The citizenry expects more than responded to crime scenes with big guns.

Merely a show of what they possess.

The gunned-down never poses a threat to public/police safety.

All shall know how gunmen operate: shoot, kill and flee the scene.

Should a gunman be found at the scene, know that he is dead.
