A Barrouallie man has become the latest homicide victim in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, which has recorded eight homicides since Sept. 30, taking the total to 38.
Jeffon Junior Norton, died after being stabbed in the Central Leeward town Friday night, 15 days before his 44th birthday.
The circumstances surrounding the stabbing death are unknown, but initial reports suggest that Norton did not die at the scene of the incident.
The killing comes a week after Martin James aka Jahson, 51, was gunned down outside an apartment complex in Villa on Oct. 5.
The latest killings began on Sept. 27, in Petit Bordel, when Stanran Stapleton aka Standpide, 29, was shot and killed, 20 years after his father was killed in the village.
Then, on Sept. 29, Othnell Lavia, aka Curtell, a 37-year-old farmer, died after being shot in Petit Bordel sometime around 2 a.m.
Iran Stapleton, a Petit Bordel man living in Redemption Sharpes, has been charged with murder in connection with Lavia’s death.
Meanwhile, police have charged two minors — an 11-year-old girl and a 15-year-old youth — with murder in connection with the death of Matthew Da Souza, 13.
Da Souza’s body was found on Sion Hill Bay on Oct. 1, one day after he was killed. An autopsy found that he died “as a result of drowning due to or as a consequence of blunt trauma to the head,” police said.
Also on Sept. 30, Elijah Crease, a 34-year-old labourer, of Prospect, died at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, where he was taken after a stabbing incident involving another male in Calliaqua.
On Oct. 3, Nolwyn Bennette aka Nolly B, a 45-year-old businessman and former NICE Radio announcer, was charged with murder in connection with that death.
He has been remanded in prison until Nov. 5, awaiting a preliminary inquiry.
Also on Oct. 3, the body Javier Dre’shan Tristian Browne aka Baryo, 21, of Chateaubelair, was found in Gibson Corner.
Police said on Friday that a post mortem concluded that he died of exsanguination (blood loss) “due to or as a result of a gunshot wound to the back”.
On Oct. 4, the body of Raymond Devon Holder, a 49-year-old farmer, of Lowmans Hill, was found outside his home with apparent chop marks.
Police later cited an autopsy as concluding that he died of “exsanguination due to multiple chop wounds”.
SVG recorded 55 homicides in 2023, breaking the record of 42 set the previous year.
Shhhhhhhhh don’t say anything remember they are people who think we should bury our heads in the sand like the ostrich. Remember if you talk you are speaking about the government
Was he also a ” small businessman ” ? there are many vacancies for school leavers in svg ,check out the ministry
Ace crimefighter of Trinadad Randolph Burroughs also had created a team of “small businessmen ” remember ? ,i think someone in st.vincent took over his idea and created a ministry for school leavers ( no wonder there is nothing else available for them after gaining their diploma ),earlier this year the ministry hosted a function for them ,remember ? since then many has fall . I also think the time has come for us to hear from all the “retired ” commissioners of police ,some who were were forced into square holes because they can reveal too much ,are they looking at what they are helping our country to become ?or are they too afraid for their own lives ?
The first order of business is for SVG to take a deep bow with pride on the 45th commemoration of national independence.
We see here a chronicle of intolerance: a cluster of homicides in a small population in which the individual events are not reliably known to be linked. Perhaps this is an improvement when compared to the option to generate multiple homicides in a single session.
I’m under the impression some people want to see ULP/Gonsalves remain in power and running the country despite crime and unemployment being off the charts.
The marxist will be there to throw soot in the soup.
