The Vermont man who had been charged over the September 2018 gunpoint robbery of the wife of Minister of Agriculture Saboto Caesar was found dead at his home with apparent gunshot injuries on Friday.
The body of Denzil Harry aka Glenville Harry, a 42-year-old farmer was found at his home around 7:35 a.m. after residents who had heard gunshots during the night went to check on him.
In July 2020, Harry and his co-accused — Ettian Charles, of Coulls Hill, a then-police officer who was on suspension from duty, Elroy Rogers, of New Montrose, and Rocuan Robinson, 31, of Campden Park — were freed of robbery charges when Caesar’s wife, Reisha Twana Browne-Caesar declined to testify against them.
On July 12, 2024, Harry was spared additional jail time on a burglary charge, having spent two months more on remand than the sentence that Justice Brian Cottle handed down on a burglary charge.
The sentence was in relation to the Aug. 30, 2018 burglary at GEC Auto Supplies in Villa, during which security guard, Rodney George was killed
Harry had spent four years, five months and 23 days on remand and was sentenced to time served.
Charles had spent one year, eight months and seven days on remand and was ordered to spend a further two years, seven months and 23 days in prison.
Charles and Harry had been charged with burglary and murder in connection with George’s death.
On March 24, 2023, the murder charge was discontinued and he pleaded guilty to burglary.
Two other men were also charged in connection with George’s death, but their matter is yet to be disposed of.
During the July 2024 sentencing hearing, Justice Cottle observed that Harry had been on bail for some time pending sentencing and during this time he had demonstrated efforts at rehabilitation by engaging in gainful employment.
Harry, however, had four previous convictions including three for burglary, which were spent.
He had also been convicted of going equipped with implements to be used for burglary, for which he had been sentenced to six months imprisonment.
Justice Cottle had said that Harry’s efforts to secure permanent employment had not been successful because potential employers did not continue his employment on learning of his last conviction and sentence.
At the time of the sentencing, Harry had been engaged in farming on land belonging to his father in Vermont where he had been growing watermelon and corn.
On weekends, he had been selling barbecues in the village.
