This country has engaged the services of lawyers in the United Kingdom as it continues its quest to get reparations from its former colonisers.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines has formed a reparations committee that will seek compensation from the United Kingdom for genocide against the Garifuna people and the enslavement of Africans here.

“In the U.K., I had a meeting with the lawyers from chambers which are providing advice for us on how to proceed in relation to reparations for genocide and slavery,” Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves told a press conference on Monday.

He further said that Jomo Thomas, head of the Reparations Committee, had been in contact with the lawyers in the United Kingdom.

“I met them in London and I had a long meeting with them. And, as you are aware, I have gotten the matter on the agenda of CARICOM and Professor Hillary Beckles have agreed to do a background paper. I have asked him. And I am hoping that we can get out of CARICOM a CARICOM-wide commission on reparations. We are dealing with things on different fronts,” Gonsalves said.

  1. SO hOw are we going to charge them Ralpie, by the whip or by the rapings that my people got?. This is very sick, and the very fact that it is being done by Ralph, a man who is white in SVG and no where else in the world, it is very shameful to me. Profiteering from the abuse and misery of our forefathers. Vincentians who support this should be ashamed.

    1. I am in total agreement with you, Blane the simple question that you asked will never receive an answer neither from Ralph or Jomo. They are shameless and think that they and their lawyer friends can benefit from all the abuse of our families. Ralph is willing to let the criminals off the hook but I say they must remain the devils that they are as long as they trod the earth and remember that Ralph is one of them.

  2. TeacherFang says:

Hey,Ralphie is looking for his 40 acres and his mule…well he got his mule already, ah will not call any name but the name rhyme with POWDA LOL.

Look, this reparation thing is simply an intellectual pursuit going nowhere. The politicians will get their requisite mileage and votes and the professional demagogues will get their five minutes of fame and some pocket change…and the masses will simply retreat back into the shadows of their daily lives, emotionally spent and collectively bamboozled.

  3. Who are the Barristers and Solicitors in London, what chambers? I will contact them. I doubt currently there is any such thing, I think its just more lies to add as information for the brainless among us.

After all it was Portugal and Madeira that started off the Atlantic slave trade, and it was Gonsalves very own family member [Antonio Gonsalves] that captured those first Africans and chained them and dragged them onto his ship. Let Ralph show good faith by putting in himself a million US dollars, followed then by the Portuguese, then the Spanish. Those two countries had a monopoly on the Atlantic slave trade for over 200 years, only after that period did other European countries join in. Let them that created the slave trade pay the bill.

This period and the names that I give are very well recorded in history, press the buttons and you will see for yourselves.

  4. And as for his yard boy Jomo, what on earth is he thinking of, associating himself with this mans quest for political furtherance. Isn’t he old enough, worldly enough or intelligent enough to know he is being used in the worst possible way?

WAKE UP JOMO, STOP BEING A YARD BOY, THE CARIBBEAN IS LAUGHING AT YOU

  5. I SUPPOSE THERE IS SOME FINANCIAL REWARD FOR SITTING ON THIS COMMITTEE, SOME FINANCIAL AND POLITICAL GAIN, SOME EXPECTED GLORY.

WAKE UP MAN YOUR BEING PLAYED AS A SUCKER, HISTORY WILL JUDGE YOU.
