Distribution Of School Supplies To Students On The Leeward Side Of St. Vincent

Over 130 students who were affected by the Christmas floods in St. Vincent have received assistance from “Rise Up Bequia”, a group of residents of the northern Grenadine island.

Funds collected and monies donated at a benefit concert in Port Elizabeth were used to buy stationery items.

With the aid of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Red Cross, the group visited Troumaca Primary, Fitz Hughes Primary, Spring Village Methodist Primary, Chateaubelair Methodist Primary, West Wood Methodist Primary, Petite Bordel Secondary and Troumaca Secondary to deliver these packages on Monday. The students were given the opportunity to share their experiences of the flood and were encouraged by members of the group to thank God that they survived and to help others in any way they can. Since Christmas Day, one day after the floods, Rise Up Bequia has been active in helping persons affected by the natural disaster.

The group says it is now determined to spearhead a variety of projects to help the Bequia community to rise up, bearing in mind the words of Mahatma Gandhi, “Be the change you want to see in the world”.
