The man suspected of murdering an elderly woman and injuring her husband during a cutlass attack in Bequia Saturday night is dead.

Police sources say that the body of Lyndon Quashie was found in the burnt out ground floor of a house on the North Grenadines island.

Initially investigations suggest that he locked himself in the building and set it afire, police sources have told I-Witness News.

The Police Public Relations Department said in a bulletin on Monday that homicide detectives were investigating the murder of 65-year-old Hyacinth Hoyte, a domestic of Paget Farm, Bequia and the attempted murder of Marcs Hoyte, a 65-year-old stevedore of the same address, who received chop wounds during the same incident.

The attack is said to have taken place at the Hoytes’ home around 11:45 p.m.

Sources say Quashie was a relative of the Hoytes.

Hoyte’s death brings to 22 the number of homicides in St. Vincent and the Grenadines in 2014, according to police statistics.
