The second round of matches in the SVG Community College QuickCash Corp. Invitational Basketball competition were played on Friday at the Arnos Vale Sporting Complex.

Match one of the afternoon saw a big upset, as the Division of Teacher Education held their nerves to edge the Division of Arts, Sciences and General Studies in overtime, 40-36.

The teams were locked at 36 each after four quarters of an exciting interchange. Akeel Jack led from the front for the Division of Teacher Education, sinking a game and match day high 21 points. Maxie Dublin was the Division of Arts, Sciences and General Studies’ top scorer with 15 points.

The afternoon’s second match saw defending champions, the RSVG Police Youth Club, returning to winning ways after their round one loss. They defeated the Division of Technical and Vocational Education 41-30. Thirteen points from Keagan Hackshaw and 12 points by Javed Williams took the RSVG Police Youth Club to victory.

Corey John sunk 12 points for the Division of Technical and Vocational Education.

Then in the 3:30 p.m. fixture, the Medical Schools Combined maintained their unbeaten run with another hard-fought triumph, this time over the BlueChip Basketball Academy, 36-31.

Shazaao Khan bucketed 16 points for the Medical Schools Combined while Reon Ollivierre was impressive with a game-high 18 points, in a losing cause.

The competition continues on Tuesday.

From 1:20 p.m., the Division of Teacher Education meet the Division of Technical and Vocational Education.

The Division of Arts, Sciences and General Studies will try to stop the Medical Schools Combined when they do battle from 2:30 p.m., then the RSVG Police Youth Club lock horns with the BlueChip Basketball Academy from 3:30 p.m.
