A Vincentian career computer scientist has launched an online tool that voters can use to verify their registration for the upcoming general election.

Sharma London told iWitness News that the online registration lookup tool — Voter Analysis System (VALSY) — is part of a broader analytics platform that existed for over 15 years.

“This go around, the decision was made to create an online presence, starting with the voter registration lookup module,” he told iWitness News.

“Then, the goal is to expand the platform to the rest of the region.”

London said there is a lot of room for digital improvement in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the Caribbean.

“This is just one example. As a country and region, we need to become much more efficient within the confines of the law.”

He said this means that as the country embarks on a digital journey, “we can’t interfere with the secrecy of the ballot, for example, nor should we use generative artificial intelligence for anything nefarious or unethical”.

Users can enter a name and/or voter number into VALSY. Once the record is identified, the user can then click on the voter number to see polling station details.

For example, the platform would tell a voter if their polling division has changed, and if so, to which division.

London noted that the voter’s list is public information that is published by the Electoral Office every quarter.

“Users do not need to sign up or sign in to access the information. Just simply visit the website, and search for the name,” London said.

“The only difference between this and the printed copy of the voter’s list is that this is digital, simple and faster, and more accessible,” he further told iWitness News.
